HND Lesson: Design Principle-Mondrian's Box.(Tribute To Neo-Plasticism)

This lesson required student to apply a principle of an art-movement into a design. Since I am a product design student, I need to design a product that resembled Neo-Plasticism. For more info about Neo-Plasticism, visit this link: http://heliostcs.blogspot.com/2013/06/talk-talk-tribute-to-neo-plasticism.html

As a tribute to Neo-Plasticism and also part of assignment of Design Principle. Mondrian's box is created.

Mondrian’s box is designed because the inspiration from Mondrian’s artwork. It is designed to commemorate Mondrian and Neo-Plasticism. Mondrian wanted to make art as simple as possible, this was his philosophy toward Neo-Plasticism. As to apply his action into a design, a very simple form is decided as the design. To make people recognize this is the box of Mondrian, his artwork is being modified and applied on the product. The apply is based on Mondrian’s artwork in the late of 1930.

Mondrian Box is a rectangular container that represent the concept of Neo-Plasticism. It was built by acrylic and wood. It is designed in such simple form because it was designed according to the principle and theory of Neo-Plasticism. It is functioned as a container for stationary, besides that, it can  be a flower pot as well . It is made up by 4 side of acrylic-wood combination plane jointing with  4 wooden square pole.

Concept:

Neo-Plasticism suggest a design should be as simple as possible. The design is traced back to the simplest form of all object. A box shape object is the simplest .Mondrian’s artwork can be noticed as some modified artwork is being applied into the design as a sign of respect to the great artist of Netherlands.
